Consultancy

I offer an opportunity for Christian leaders and practitioners to reflect on experience whether it is good, bad or even ugly. Using a variety of interdisciplinary and practical theological “lenses” we will, together seek phronesis or practical wisdom (the ‘mind’ of Christ - Philippians 2:5). This is not quite pastoral supervision, coaching, mentoring or spiritual direction and yet may combine some elements of all of these approaches. In conversation together I will seek to draw individuals or groups into a deeper theological and reflective space leading to renewed, joyful engagement with life, ministry and mission in God’s good world.

I have long experience in reflective practice alongside psychodynamic and systems approaches to transformation, especially with Christian leaders (I hold the Tavistock Institute for Human Relations Certificate in Consulting and Change). In recent years I have been consulting to groups of local churches and the systems that support them around long-term, deep cultural change towards their inherent abundance. I have written on the nature of liminality in change processes and draw on this understanding for enabling important transitions.

1. In the individual

I prefer calling 1:1 working with a client ‘seeking practical wisdom’ since I will bring relevant theory and experience to whatever the individual presents. Other terms for a similar process are coaching, mentoring or supervision, but I want to work more theologically than these approaches sometimes allow. We identify the issues in the (free) first and/or second sessions and then contract the relationship and its intended outcomes over a limited period.

2. In an Organisation, Church or Team

We would contract together depending on client needs and requirements. In the consultancy process we would be utilising my experience and expertise in a variety of consulting methodologies as noted above.
